Doing good and being helpful to those in need is what keeps this world turning. In times when many of us feel let down by humanity, encountering individuals like young Matthew Resendez helps restore our faith and reminds us that things aren’t as dire as they seem.

While working at the local Burger King in an area frequented by many homeless individuals, one of them came into the restaurant and showed Matthew a handful of coins. He then inquired if they offered a meal for $0.50, as that was all he had.

This man wasn’t pleading for charity; he was willing to pay for his meal, even though he was unaware that his coins wouldn’t cover even the cheapest item on the menu.

Nevertheless, Matthew couldn’t bring himself to turn the man away, knowing he was hungry, so he chose to perform a kind act.

He used his own money to buy food for a homeless man, and it was incredibly moving.

When he returned home and shared his actions with his mom, she decided to tell her friends about it, never expecting it to become a viral story.

Here’s what Mathew’s mom, Michelle, had to say:

“What a proud moment for a mom!

was working this evening when a homeless man came into the restaurant with just 50 cents, asking if there was anything he could purchase from the menu.

Matthew inquired what the man would choose if he had the chance, and the man replied that anything would alleviate his hunger…”

So Matthew called him up for a delicious meal and then used his own debit card to cover the cost of the man’s meal.

He gave him the receipt and encouraged him to relax and take a seat. The story could conclude there, and it would still be a happy ending, but interestingly, a woman observed my son during his spontaneous act of kindness.

Not only did she contact the company to inform them about the thoughtful employee they had, but she also rewarded my son with a very generous tip!

I am so proud to be his mom, and I can give myself a pat on the back for having a role in raising this kind-hearted young man.

Even though he’s still quite young, Matthew understands empathy and compassion. He believes that we are all equal and that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their social status.

This young man’s story has touched the hearts of millions, who all agree that he is truly remarkable. His mother beams with pride, and we share in that pride as well.
